Touch-screen BlackBerry Storm hits stores

BlackBerry’s first touch-screen phone launches today. Designed by Research In Motion, Horizon and Vodafone, the BlackBerry Storm will be a direct rival to Apple’s iPhone and Google’s G1.

The phone features an 8cm x 9cm touch screen, which replaces the qwerty keyboard on older models and is being sold exclusively in UK Vodafone stores. This follows similar distribution deals with the iPhone, sold solely on O2, and the G1, on T-Mobile.

The Storm offers a phone and high-speed Web browser with mobile e-mail facilities, satellite navigation, 3.2MB camera and 1GB memory which can be expanded to 16GB. At 155g, it is heavier than the 133g iPhone.

Vodafone has indicated that pre-orders have been strong. Contracts for the Blackberry Storm will start from £35 per month.

I just hope they have redesign Blackberry’s packaging for this model. All the innovation they put on their products, is taken away on their packaging. Boring!
