Manchester design consultancy True North has made its first strategic development appointment.

Claire Rigby has this week joined the consultancy as strategic development director, having previously worked for advertising agencies Lowe and BBH.

Her remit will cover the development of new business and True North’s strategic and commercial offering.

True North managing director Martin Carr says recent projects such as developing brand proposition for The Climate Group and the repositioning of Bristol Museums – both earlier this year – highlighted a need to have a more permanent strategic offering within the consultancy.

He says, ‘In the second half of last year we looked at the direction we wanted to take the consultancy in. We wanted to make sure that we were working on the most satisfying projects we could, and to work with the most demanding clients we needed to develop strategic offering.’

He adds, ‘We’ve worked with external associates on strategic projects, but we’ve recognised that the ideal [scenario] is to have one permanently as part of our offer.’

Rigby says, ‘The experience I have is in marrying innovative strategic insight with creativity to change the fortunes of brands and organisations.’

She will begin work immediately on brand development of Cape and the Climate Group, as well as the strategic development of Royal Mail internal communications.
