999 Design bags Lee Cooper brief

999 Design has been appointed as the lead marketing agency for UK jeans company Lee Cooper.

The consultancy will refresh marketing across its European wholesale and international licensing channels, having attended a strategic pitch in April.

James Buckley, creative director at 999 Design, says he will be working on two accounts – Lee Cooper and its high-end sub-brand Red Diamond Lee Cooper – to ‘define both brands and bring the level of marketing up to a high standard’.

Positioning will start in the new year, Buckley adds. ‘There’ll be advertising and promotions, and we’ll possibly look at some branding,’ he says.

Between now and the end of the year, the consultancy will work on a suite of sales tools, including ‘look books’ and catalogues. Work is underway for an RDLC book aimed at the European market.

Lee Cooper, which celebrated its centenary last year, has recently expanded into Asian markets. It was bought out from Matalan by private equity group Sun Capital Partners in 2005.
