Peter Saville creates Manchester Christmas wrapping paper

Manchester’s creative director Peter Saville has created a wrapping paper design for the city’s Christmas celebrations. Saville was commissioned to design the limited-edition giftwrap as part of a marketing campaign to draw Christmas shoppers into the city centre.

The multi-coloured abstract design is intended to ‘subtly evoke the warmth and emotion of Christmas in a contemporary way’, according to a statement released by  Cityco, which promotes and develops Manchester’s city centre.

The 5000 tubes of the paper are on sale priced at £2.99 for two metres. Cityco is suggesting that besides being used in the conventional manner, the paper could be framed as ‘an affordable and attractive Christmas present’.

Instead of the usual four-colour print process, the wrapping paper uses six colours. Each piece has ‘a completely different look, and even colour, when wrapped around a present’, claims Cityco chief executive Kate Harrison.

Manchester appointed Saville as its creative director in 2004.

I really didn’t think it was possible to fool any Mancunians into driving all the way to the Arndale just to have their prezzies wrapped in PS (ah, the stripes) paper

Nice stuff though… worth the £7.50 it will cost to park just to get it.

It looks like your standard Paperchase wrapping paper, but it’s been taken a stage further and actually hurts the eyes.
