Voting opens in album design competition

Voting opens tomorrow for Art Vinyl, the graphic award that celebrates the best in album design.

Selected by Art Vinyl and a panel of industry experts, including Spencer Hicks from Rough Trade East record shop and Creative Review deputy editor Mark Sinclair, 50 sleeve designs have been shortlisted

The shortlisted entries will be on display in Selfridges, London, the Snap Galleries in Birmingham and Georges House Gallery in Folkstone throughout November and December.

Last year’s winner was Fleet Foxes’ eponymous album, displaying cover art of a painting from 1559 (Netherlandish Proverbs by Pieter Bruegel the Elder), which got 3000 public votes. The Cribs, Man’s Needs Woman’s Needs Whatever designed by Rob Crane, took the 2007 prize, and Thom Yorke’s Eraser, by Stanley Donwood, won in 2006.

The winner, chosen by an online public vote, will be announced on 5 January.
