Reaping royal rewards
Bill Moggridge was unable to make it to London last night to pick up the Prince Philip Designers Prize at a ceremony at the Design Council so sent his older brother along to claim the award on his behalf.
‘I’m a landscape architect, so I’m also in the creative industries,’ explained brother Moggridge, who looked like a beardless Bill, before Moggridge minor appeared on a video link from New York to thank the crowd and Prince Philip.
HRH himself was on typically entertaining form, launching into an anecdote about trying to investigate a new form of carriage when he was president of the International Equestrian Council, a project which saw the Prince buy a model of the cart, spread it out on the floor of the German hotel room, install some empty champagne bottles as a track and then be rudely interupted by an unexpected and bewildered party of senior equestrian administrators.
After doling out the prizes, Phil spent time mingling with the crowd of creatives – any suggestions as to what he and Vivienne Westwood (see below) might have been discussing would be gratefully received.
