Create your own Christmas jumpers with a hacked knitting machine
Artist Andew Salomone has hacked into the Brother KH930 knitting machine, creating an electronic fix that allows him to use it like a desktop printer.
This means Salomone can now turn any design into a unique hand-made festive jumper – just in time for Christmas.
And he’ll be bringing his hacked knitting machine to London gallery KK Outlet next month, so visitors can create their own customised jumpers.
If you’ve got a jumper design you want to get on your chest, you can send it through as a high-res tiff to manchester@kkoutlet.com. All designs need to be between 200 pixels wide and 600 pixels long, with no more than two colours in a row.
These designs will then be converted into knitting patterns by Salomone.
If you’re not feeling creative enough to develop your own design, you can pick from a range of patterns designed by Anthony Burrill, Siggi Eggertsson, Nous Vous and Genevieve Gaukler – as well as a ‘Slayer lightorama’ kitted out with bleeping LEDs.
Here’s Salomone demonstrating the knitting machine on Good Morning America, showing how to make the ‘infinite regression Bill Cosby jumper’.

O Come all Ye Hackers is at KK Outlet, 42 Hoxton Square, London N1, from 2-22 December.
I WANT ONE!
I want one too! But what does ‘no more than two colours in a row’ mean? The one above looks multi-coloured.
