François Dallegret Beyond The Bubble
Sitting squarely between designer, architect, artist and engineer is Francois Dallegret who will be celebrated in a new Architectural Association exhibition.
Noted for work in the 1960s and 70s, Dallegret’s eccentric oeuvre includes mechanical machines which variously smoke, cook or write.
Although given the company he kept, it’s little surprise. Salvador Dali, Reyner Banham, Andy Warhol, Troy Litchenstein and Iris Clert were friends and collaborators, helping him bring his anarchic mind and industrial drawing techinique to a burgeoning art scene.
It was working with the critic Reyner Banham on the A Home is Not a Hotel’ collaboration that Dallegret’s Bubble House (1965) design was conceived, which is to the unititiated, a bubble shaped house for future living inflated by air conditioning.
He also – it should be noted – designed furniture and toiletries and it is his diversity which is really being celebrated here.
Career highlights will be shown through drawings, photographs, films and objects from 1957 to today.
GOD & CO: François Dallegret Beyond The Bubble runs from 5 November – 14 December at the Architectural Association of Architecture, 36 Bedford Square, London, WC1B
