s[edition] website launches with Barnbrook designs

Barnbrook Design has created the branding and website for s[edition], a digital platform for collecting affordable, digital contemporary art.

The s[edition] platform can be accessed from computers, iPads and television screens, and allows users to follow artists, browse and acquire works, download them to digital devices and screens, send editions as gifts, and start their own collections.

Artists featured on s[edition] include Mat Collishaw, Michael Craig-Martin, Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Bill Viola and Wim Wenders.

Barnbrook Design, founded by graphic designer and typographer Jonathan Barnbrook, was appointed at the start of 2011, having previously designed the website for s[edition] co-founder Harry Blain’s Blain Southern Gallery.

The consultancy designed the logo, which will be seen online, on stationery and on T-shirts, and worked with the in-house design team on creating the website.

Dan Streat, graphic designer at Barnbrook, says, ‘It was quite an open brief. s[edition] gives the general public the opportunity to buy into the artworks so it has to appeal to a lot of people but also be quite special – we didn’t want to be exclusive but we also didn’t want to devalue the artworks.’

The s[edition]  logo evolved from looking at the identities for traditional art handlers and auction houses. Streat says, ‘For the logo wanted to do something elegant and dynamic at the same time. We kept the website quite minimal so that the artwork does all the talking.’
