Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Following on from his last group exhibition, the Chinese whispers-based Whisper, illustrator Mr Gresty is turning to colour for his next show, Spectrum.

The exhibition features work from 16 designers, illustrators, photographers and artists, who each received a colour swatch to inspire their work.

The pieces will be displayed in the order of a spectrum drawn up by Gresty, starting with this wonderful bold red lion image by VJ Von Art:

After the show, which opens in east London pub The Lauriston this week, it’s hoped the works will go on to be displayed in a white gallery space to better show off their bright hues.

‘The brief gives everyone an opportunity to create a piece that’s completely within their control, but with the same format’, says Mr Gresty.

‘16 artists received one colour swatch each. They then did their thing, whatever felt right, making sure their colour was very prominent.’

Perhaps unsurprisingly for such an open brief, there’s a huge range of different interpretations, ranging from this surreal and rather frightening image by Zhang Liang:
