Service design for public services

International examples of using service design to improve public services will feature at a conference in Cardiff next January.

The Service Design for Public Services event is being organised by design and research consultancy PDR with Cardiff Council and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Speakers will include Andrea Siodmok from the UK Policy Lab in Cabinet Office, whose role is to apply design principles to policy-making and public service, and Dominic Campbell from Futuregov.

Also on the bill are Annelies Tholen from Design Flanders and Jesper Johnson from Ideakliniken in Norway.

The conference will look at how service design can be applied in areas including health and social care, innovation culture and youth unemployment.

The event organisers say: “We all know that our public services need to be more innovative; they need to be simpler to use, better and meeting citizens’ needs and at the same time they need to do this more effectively than ever before.

“But how do you actually go about delivering on these ambitions? That’s the question we will be putting to people that are leading the transformation in public services.”

The Service Design for Public Services event runs from 28-30 January 2015 at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff. For more information visit www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/service-design-for-public-services-spider-project-conference-tickets.
