Newcastle skills event starts

As a year of the Designs of the Time programme draws to an end, Dott 07 and Norhumbria University School of Design today kick off a conference on design practice.

Intersections 07: Design Know-how for a New Era aims to engage the global design community in a discussion of the skills required for future design practices.

The conference supports other work the Design Council is doing as part of a comprehensive review of skills and education. A report to the UK Government, which will soon be published in partnership with Creative & Cultural Skills, will make a number of recommendations of ways to improve the design industry’s capabilities.

Northumbria University alumnus Tim Brown, also chief executive of Ideo, will open the first day with a keynote on the challenges of design thinking.

The conference takes place at the Baltic, Newcastle upon Tyne, on 25-26 October.

Dott 07’s festival showcase, designed by Xsite Architecture, can be visited between 10am and 6pm daily until 28 October. See www.dott07.com for further information.
