Insulin injector pen bags top DBA award

The Solo Star disposable pen injector, by DCA Design International, has won the Grand Prix at this year’s Design Business Association Design Effectiveness Awards.

The pen was developed for client Sanofi Aventis, to provide a once-a-day insulin dose. It uses a new opearting mechanism, which delivers a low injection force.

In 2008 the Solo Star accounted for 41 per cent of all growth in the global injectable insulin market.

A total of 12 gold awards were presented at the ceremony last night, going to 20/20, Creative Leap, Elmwood, The Team, The Hub, Purple Circle, Coley Porter Bell, Elmwood, Good, Lewis Moberly, Vivid Brand and PDD Group.

In addition, 17 silvers and 22 bronzes were awarded.

Elmwood moved up to first place in the DBA Design Effectiveness Table, which collates three years of awards data, knocking Pearlfisher off the top spot.

Deborah Dawton, chief executive of the DBA, says, ‘In a business climate where the norm is for results to plummet, design is enabling organisations to buck the trend, and in some cases, impressively.’
