Public competition launched to design Youth Olympic Games medal

The International Olympic Committee has announced a public competition to design a medal for the Youth Olympic Games.

The games, which are to be held in Singapore in 2010, will try to engage young people through the competition.

Sergey Bubka, chairman of the coordination commission for Singapore 2010, says, ‘By launching the first-ever medal-design competition online we hope to tap into the creativity and imagination of young people across the world.’

Open to global submissions from 7 November to 4 December, applicants can upload designs at www.medaldesigncompetition.com. Online public voting will then take place from 7 December to 22 January 2010, before the ten most popular submissions are put before an IOC jury, which will then select a winning design.

Announced before 31 January, the winner will win a trip to the games next summer and a gold replica of their medal design.
