Wizard of Oz bags book design award

A new edition of children’s classic the Wizard of Oz, with cover design by Graham Rawle and text design by Rich Carr, has picked up the Book of the Year prize at the British Book Design and Production Awards 2009.

The judges say the book, published by Atlantic Books, was chosen ‘for its ingenious artwork style and exceptional standard of production’.

The Design Series, which includes monographs of Paul Nash and David Gentleman, was the winner in the brand/series identity category. The series is published by ACC Publishing, with design by Webb & Webb.

Quantum of Solace, published by Penguin with cover design by Pentagram, was the winner in the best jacket/cover design category.

Michael Johnson, chief executive of awards organiser BPIF, says, ‘We saw an exceptionally high standard of entrants this year, and our judging panel did not have an easy job deciding the winners.’
