Anouska Hempel to redesign Blakes Hotel

Interior designer Anouska Hempel has bought back Blakes Hotel in west London, backed by investors, and will undertake a two-year refurbishment programme coinciding with its 25th anniversary this year.

The refurbishment will see a gym added to the hotel, as well as an extended restaurant, new fabrics and new carpets.

Director of marketing at Blakes, Cheryl Howard, says the interiors will retain their current ‘bohemian’ look and feel, but will be ‘a little bit more plush’.

Inspired by Hempel’s travels, the design includes hand-selected artefacts from India, Thailand, China, Indonesia, Cambodia, Egypt and Italy.

Work on the hotel started about a week ago, and rooms will be upgraded ‘room by room’, Howard explains.

A Blakes Hotel spokesperson says, ‘Blakes is widely recognised as the forerunner to the luxury ‘boutique hotel’ concept and we are looking forward to restoring it to its former glory.’
