JKR has designed the gin-inspired packaging for new Penhaligon’s fragrance, Juniper Sling.

JKR was appointed to the project without a pitch, having worked with Penhaligon’s since 2010 on the Sartorial fragrance and Christmas boxes.

Penhaligon’s says the fragrance is inspired the botanical ingredients of London Dry Gin, so the packaging design references ‘gin cocktails in the 1920s, bright young things and art deco nuances’, according to JKR.

Liz Stannard, JKR designer, says, ‘The design aims to deliver simple elegance with patterns inspired by 1930s architecture but shown in a subtle way through the use of silver foils on the box.’

The outer packaging uses a green and silver colour palette on a large box structure, while the bottle itself features a metal ‘bow-tie’ around the neck, aiming to create a luxurious feel.

Stannard adds, ‘The use of real metal features on the bottle and box was key. This aspect of the design was inspired by classic decanter labels and helped provide authenticity while building on the gin story at the heart of the fragrance.’

The fragrance is launching this week.
