If you were to stand on London’s Regent Street on 6 November at first light, you might bear witness to a wild conceit, stolen from the mind of Marty McFly.

That is to assume the slowest cars from the RAC Future Car Challenge Brighton to London run are arriving as the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run competitors are setting off. Chaos.

Both follow the same 60-mile route over consequtive days with the cars of the future teams bidding to complete the route using the least amount of energy possible. The other lot, in cars over 100 years old are just looking to complete the route.

Asked to ‘encapsulate the spirit of the event’ as a ‘real world scenario’ on paper, students may do well to look inwardly. The RCAs master of arts two year course is the only dedicated postgrad course in vehicle design and its alumni include Jaguar design director Ian Callum and Seymour Powell transport design director Nick Talbot.

All of the work, set to be unveiled on Monday, seems to have taken the spirit of both rallies and fed them into the posters.
