Shopping and E*ting

As part of the celebrations for its 50th anniversary, the National Theatre is opening a pop-up shop on London’s South Bank, featuring a range of bespoke products.

Designers Michael Craig-Martin, Jamie Reid, Paula Scher, David Carson and Graphic Thought Facility have each created a limited-edition print – one for each decade of the theatre’s half-century.

A host of UK and international product designers are showcasing their work in the store, while artist Adam Dant has created a range of new work – looking at how the National Theatre works.

The shop has been designed by Kit Grover, whose previous work includes the retail offer at Tate Britain.

Patrick Harrison, director of commercial operations at the National Theatre, describes the space as ‘bold and unconventional, to engage and welcome visitors’.

The eating part of the equation is dealt with in the form of a 1950s Citroen van, which will host National Theatre chefs serving up street food and drink.

Shopping and Eating is on London’s South Bank until 12 January 2014.
