What to look out for at this year’s art fair week

The art fair circus is back in London town – here’s a list of what’s going on.

Celebrating contemporary prints and editions, the focus of the 2014 Multiplied Art Fair, its fifth outing is, contemporary prints, photographs, digital art, artists’ books and 3-D printing. New talents from Slade School of Fine Art, the Royal College of Art and the University of the Arts London will be sharing the space with art-world big-gins like David Shrigley, Sir Peter Blake, Gary Hume and Gavin Turk.

Moniker and The Other Art Fair

Moniker Art Fair also celebrates its fith birthday this year, and alongside The Other Art Fair, with which it will share the Old Truman Brewery space in east London, has earned itself a reputation for showing edgier work. Moniker focuses on street art and street art-related work, with exhibiting galleries including StolenSpace, TAG Fine Arts, Hang-Up Gallery and Jealous.

The Other Art Fair, which takes place twice a year, is marking its seventh edition. For this event, there will be a dedicated photography section, Photo 21, a series of talks and workshops, and the Kids Create strand for art fans aged three to ten years-old, who can take part in a “creative treasure hunt”.

Art and Design behemoth PAD returns to Berkeley Square with its usual mix of fine art, design and decorative arts. A total of 62 galleries from Europe, North America and the Middle East will be showing their wares, including London’s Gallery Fumi, and Design Week Awards Rising Star winner Bethan Laura Wood will be showing her works at Italian gallery Nilufar’s stand. The PAD restaurant and bar will be designed by David Collins Studio.

New kid on the art fair block Art Apart launches in London this year at the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green, east London. The fair has previously taken place in Singapore, and for its inaugural London edition will be showing more than 2,000 contemporary artworks from more than 100 emerging and mid-career artists from Asia and Europe including Corinne Felgate, Debbie Lawson, Nikolai Ishchuk and Annelies Štrba. As well as paintings, photography and sculptures, there will also be pieces by  silversmiths, jewellers and makers such as Hans Stofer, David Clarke and Bernard Schobinger.

1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair

A celebration of art and design from Africa will be taking place at Somerset House, designed by architect Rashid Ali, who takes the baton from last year’s designed David Adjaye. The fair 1:54 will be accompanied by an educational and artistic programme curated by Koyo Kouoh including lectures, film screenings and panel debates.

Frieze London

Finally, the big ones: Frieze London and Frieze Masters. This year’s Frieze London space has been designed by Universal Design Studio, which has created “a new layout and a focus on the public spaces, using contrast, texture and tone”, according to the fair. As usual Frieze will boast a sculpture park, the Focus section of emerging galleries and Frieze Projects, with the 2014 edition including a collaboration between artist Cerith Wyn Evans and ZSL London Zoo.

Frieze London runs from 15 – 18 October at Regents Park, London NW1 4NR. Frieze Masters is also running on 19 October.
