One Year On 2011

Design Week has always supported One Year On – the attendant exhibition to two-part graduate showcase New Designers. One Year On is now in its 12th incarnation and celebrates the achievements of hand-picked designers a year after they left college.

In the past, we have created a pull-out catalogue, featuring one piece of work per entrant, but this year are doing it differently. The work of a handful of exhibitors is reviewed on the back page of the magazine issue of 23 June, while this online presentation gives you a visual guide to all 50 or so of them of them – with up to three images of the work of each designer or design group.

We hope this will give you a broader perspective of the work – as ever, a mix of jewellery, ceramics, fashion, textiles and graphics. It might also tempt you to pop into London’s Business Design Centre during the two weeks of New Designers to buy some of the artefacts or commission their creators to collaborate on your projects.

The selection for this year’s show was made by a panel including Jethro Macey, who is overall curator of the event and designer of the show. He was joined on the selection panel by David Nicholls, design editor of the Daily Telegraph, Madeleine Furness of the Crafts Council, Karoline Newman, director of Articulate Communication and jeweller Imogen Belfield, who was one of last year’s winners.
