Nottingham unleashes creative intiative

An initiative that aims to stimulate design creativity is being launched tonight in Nottingham before travelling to London as part of Designers Block next week.

Unleashed – A Gift of Inspiration, supported by Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham City Council, consists of a series of exhibitions featuring work by furniture and fashion designers, architects, illustrators, graffiti artists, musicians and film-makers.

The organisers have commissioned a beer called Inspiration Unleashed to promote the initiative, with branding by Casciani Evans Woods partner Jonathan Casciani.

Co-organiser Sarah Davenport says, ‘We don’t like the way that the Nottingham creative scene is becoming quite soulless, even though there are a lot of creative industry workers here. Unleashed will help to encourage designers to go the extra mile to design things that they love. We are impressed by the council’s admission that it is not an expert on the creative industry, and by its willingness to work closely with groups such as Unleashed to reinvigorate the local design and arts scene.’

Unleashed will also stage an exhibition at the inaugural Nottingham Creative Business Awards, on 18 October.
