Conran and Hamnett to address IP issues

Designer Sebastian Conran and fashion designer Katherine Hamnett will be advising entrepreneurs on intellectual property in a seminar next week as part of London Design Festival.

The From Brainwave to Business seminar will be held at the British Library and will see Conran and Hamnett joined by entrepreneur Jim Shaikh and IP lawyer Denise Nurse.

Issues under discussion will include using IP to help your business stand out from competitors, and the difference between patents, designs, trademarks and copyright.

Isabel Oswell, head of business marketing at the British Library, says, ‘At the heart of any thriving business lies a good idea. Yet entrepreneurs who do not properly research and protect their ideas will not only fall short of their potential, but run the risk of total failure.’

The event will be held at the British Library Conference Centre from 6.15pm-9pm on 23 September. Tickets cost £10.

Earlier this year, Conran called on Government to provide more accountability and reduced litigation costs to improve intellectual property protection.
