Hemingway’s Kioskiosk to go permanent

Wayne and Geraldine Hemingway are set to open three permanent versions of their pop-up shop Kioskiosk.

Following the success of the temporary shop, which offers rent-free space in prime locations to young entrepreneurial designers, three permanent spaces have been set aside.

Hemingway cannot yet reveal the locations of the spaces, as they are being bought by a developer and have not been finalised yet. However, he did say, ‘One will be in a public square.’

The pop-up shop, outside City Hall, London SE1, is supported by the Mayor of London and the London Sustainable Development Commission’s London Leaders Programme.

‘We’re looking to do something different [with the permanent spaces] that wouldn’t involve mayoral support,’ Hemingway says, adding, ‘It’s on the developer’s land and the people that buy them might run them,’ suggesting private investment will fund the new venture.

Hemingway says of the City Hall pop-up shop, ‘I wanted councillors to see it and then go to their towns to ask for one.’ The nomadic shop will now go to Nottingham in October, after the London shop closes.

Maybe KiosKiosk will get a little bit more inspired by my master of retail presentation from 2006 called ‘Surprise enterprise’ a stage for small retail concepts to present themselves within a shop formula. Here I explain my research for a department store formula to temporarily stage small entrepreneurs on a high street location. You can see it since 4 months on slideshare
