New graduate design school launches in London

University of the Arts London launches its new graduate design school next week.

Named the Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Graduate School, the new institution, which opens on 16 September, will take more than 450 postgraduate and research students, studying on courses ranging from fine art and design to theatre and communications.

The school takes its name from the colleges that it will be based across: Camberwell College of Arts, Chelsea College of Art & Design and Wimbledon College of Art.

Overarching themes relating to climate change, identities and technologies are intended to inspire collaborations between different colleges and disciplines.

‘We want to instigate a new way of linking research and teaching,’ says CCW Graduate School dean Linda Drew. ‘We could see a textiles student collaborating with a book arts fellow on a project exploring sustainability.’

The school will run an annual three-day festival exploring study themes, with the first taking place on 28-30 October.
