Revamped RCA Art Bar set to open

The Royal College of Art is poised to open the doors to its revamped Art Bar, designed by RCA graduates Markus Bergstrom and Joe Nunn.

Bergstrom and Nunn, who graduated from the school in 2005, beat four other shortlisted design groups to win the project after their design received the most votes from current RCA students.

Working to a budget of £18 000, the duo stripped the 96m2 bar area back to its original state, following decades of regular redesigns by various designers, including Ben Kelly.

‘This is the first time the bar has been completely gutted and stripped back to the building rather than being layered up,’ says RCA student union events manager Jonathan Boyd.

‘The bar is now open and bright, and has a warmer atmosphere, with room to dance at night and host lectures during the day,’ adds Boyd.

Bergstrom and Nunn have also been appointed to redesign the café adjoining the Art Bar over the winter.

It would be good to see what it looks like, without more comment. Perhaps a picture or two.
