Tord Boontje designs female-friendly laptop

Tord Boontje has designed a new Hewlett-Packard laptop for ‘design- and environmentally conscious women’.

The HP Mini 110 is a 25cm notebook, with 3D lid-cover illustration by Boontje, featuring floral images and endangered animals, which create a multi-layered hologram effect HP refers to as ‘imprint 3D’.

Boontje has designed environmentally friendly materials across packaging and documentation using soya-based inks. The box, cushions and user guide are made from 100 per cent recycled material.

The notebook comes with a protective sleeve made from organic cotton, 15 wallpapers, a screensaver and icons all designed by Boontje, who takes over from Ron Arad at the Royal College of Art this month, and a keyboard that is 92 per cent full-sized.

The laptop is being launched alongside nine other HP products in time for Christmas. It is released on 22 October and will retail at around £349.
