Dutch hotel group Citizen M opens Glasgow branch

Dutch hotel group Citizen M is set to officially open the doors to its property in Glasgow on Thursday.

Citizen M says the overall concept for its hotels was created by Dutch architect Concrete. It has also worked with Keppie Design on the Glasgow branch, with Dutch ad agency Kessels Kramer working on graphics and Alex Dordoy working on artwork for the façade. Citizen M says Vitra is the hotel’s official partner for all public spaces.

The 198-room hotel is eight storeys high, with a facade made from natural granite. An illuminated double-height glazed red entrance leads to a red spiral staircase up to the first floor.

Dordoy has created a surrealist mesh artwork for the façade, while furniture and furnishings for the interior are provided by Hella Jongerius, Verner Panton, Jasper Morrison and Vitra.

Citizen M has also confirmed that it will open hotels in two sites in London – one at the South Bank next year and one at Tower Hill by 2012 – and two sites in New York.
