Gallery Elena Shchukina looks to ‘challenge the traditional gallery format’
Gallery Elena Shchukina boldly hopes to ‘challenge the traditional gallery format’ when it opens in London later this month.
Artist and curator Shchukina – who has put her name to the whole venture – promises that painting, furniture, lighting, objects and wall coverings will be ‘in dialogue’, to create an immersive aesthetic environment – and even ‘a revolutionary gallery experience’.
Interior design and furnishings will take their lead from painting which is singularly given the most prominence in the gallery.
In her native Russia, Shchukina – who has designed and branded the gallery – studied art and design at the Moscow Academic School of Design, where she learned to create themed environments, bringing art, furniture, wall coverings, floors and objects together in cohesion.
Shchukina is looking to collaborate with artists, designers and brands. First up artist Onyeka Ibe, sculptor Gianfranco Meggiato and interior design brand Porta Romana.
Gallery Elena Shchukina, opens at 10 Lees Place, Mayfair, London, W1K with Onyeka Ibe’s Interactive Spaces, which runs from 24 September – 9 November.
