In 2012, Amazon was thought to have been looking at retail space in Seattle, USA, though this was never realised.

According to a story in the Wall Street Journal, the store will be opening in time for the Christmas shopping period, and will be sited on the same Street as Macy’s department store, West 34th Street.

This is the store’s first venture into a physical store, and will look to help the brand “connect with customers in the physical world”, according to the Wall Street Journal.

It adds that the space will be used as a “mini warehouse”, though will be primarily used for customers to pick up items bought online. They  will also be able to pick up online orders and return or exchange products bought online.

The news follows research released in January this year suggesting news that one in six UK online retailers was planning to expand their offer to a physical space in 2014.

Online brand eBay opened a pop-up store in London’s Soho at the end of 2011.
