Design Nation takes over the Southbank shop

Previous takeovers of the Southbank’s shop have involved zombies, a nine-foot balloon reindeer and the biggest lava lamp in the world.

As well as selling works in ceramics, glass and other materials, the Southbank showcase also aims to give visitors an insight into the traditional British manufacturing techniques.

Adam Thow, head of retail & buying at Southbank Centre Shops, says, ‘We are looking to celebrate innovation, creativity and British manufacturing at its best but also to engage people with how things are made.

‘By showing films of the processes, by having moulds and factory paraphernalia there to touch and by inviting customers to look at the journey from start to finish we hope to foster appreciation of these beautiful objects but also a greater understanding of why good things cost what they do.’
