Fivefootsix has designed the UEFA Youth League trophy, the prize for a new competition which will feature youth teams fielded by all the clubs that qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

As Fivefootsix was working on the word marque for the UEFA Youth League the opportunity arose to design the Lennart Johnansson Trophy as well as the Women’s Under 19 trophy, according to Fivefootsix partner Algy Batten.

The Lennart Johansson Trophy, says Batten ‘has a raw shape as if it’s formed from rock at the base, and out of that comes something more refined’. This part, Batten says, is representative of ‘a bridge to the senior game’.

The Women’s under 19 competition is already established, so Fivefootsix was engaged in a refresh project, to update a pre-existing trophy. The new one is in production and is yet to be unveiled.

On both projects the consultancy worked with silversmithing company Thomas Lyte, ‘which relished the challenges’ Fivefootsix set them, Batten says.

Working with film agency Armoury, Fivefootsix produced this promotional film for the UEFA Youth League.

Batten says, ‘In story-boarding the film we came up with the idea that the tournament is about the making and refining of these players, so we decided to juxtapose players honing their skills with the creation of the trophy.’
