Good golly Miss Molly – bright, bold new prints

Cardiff-born, Bristol-based printmaker Molly Goldwater didn’t used to believe in colour.

If an interview with blog Sarah Akwisombe is to be believed, during the artist’s time as an undergraduate she shrugged off colour as unimportant to her textural print works.

However, as her beautifully bold prints prove, Goldwater later had a revelation in how different hues could amplify texture, alter mood, and highlight lines.

The results of this revelation are to be opened to the pubic in a new show entitled All in Between at Cardiff’s Gallery Ten this month, displaying a series of Goldwater’s new prints.

University of the West of England graduate Goldwater says her work is inspired by ‘the naïve, abstract forms of mid-20th century British printmakers’, creating different finishes and textures in her melange of different working processes and media.

We love the mix of cut-outs and hand-drawing which weave intricate layers, forming beautiful, bright pieces imbued with movement and a charming eschewal of the precious and precise

Molly Goldwater All In Between runs from 5 – 27 September at Gallery Ten, First Floor, 23 Windsor Place, Cardiff CF103BY
