Kai & Sunny’s LA debut
Illustration duo Kai & Sunny have worked with Shepard Fairey on a beautiful new collaborative print.
The piece will be on show as part of an exhibition, entitled Caught By The Nest, opening this weekend.
Sadly it’s unlikely many of us will be able to see the show at Subliminal Projects – it’s in LA – but here’s a snapshot of the project for those of us not in sunnier climes…..
The new piece will be sold as a limited-edition print run in two colourways – black and silver, and black and light gold.
According to Shepard Fairey, ‘The metallic is more luminous than most and has to be seen in person’.
The piece, printed on premium rag paper with deckled edges, features an embossed Kai & Sunny logo in the lower right, and all prints are signed and numbered by the duo and Shepard Fairey.
The overall exhibition is inspired by Naoki Higashida’s book The Reason I Jump – the memoir ofa 13 year-old autistic child.
Just as Kai & Sunny look to nature for inspiration, so does the book’s protagonist, articulating daily life through the visual landscape that surrounds them.
Kai says, ‘Sunny and I use nature in our work to connect with people, to provoke thoughts and memories. We like the idea of showing something you can’t actually see and ask bigger questions. We use nature-based images as a metaphor for other feelings’.
