Spring creates official Margaret Thatcher memorabilia
Suffolk-based consultancy Spring has created an official range of Margaret Thatcher memorabilia for the Conservative Party.
The range – entitled the Maggie Collection – features characteristic phrases from the former Prime Minister applied to a series of products.
A T-shirt reads ‘The Lady’s Not for Turning’ on the reverse, while an Oyster card holder is emblazoned with the phrase ‘You May Have to Fight a Battle More than Once to Win It’. A tote bag features an image of Thatcher’s famous handbag.
Spring, which has worked previously for the Conservative Party, was appointed to create the range for launch at the party’s conference in Manchester this week.
The range is going on sale at a specially designed Maggie’s Shop stand at the conference and is also available online.
Spring co-founder Erika Clegg says, ‘Our goal was to honour this important brief and Margaret Thatcher’s future position in the public psyche by stripping away some of the caricatures that surround her.’
The consultancy says it has used ‘strong typography’ and used ‘a vibrant background of Conservative blue’.
The products use photographs and illustrations created in-house by Spring.
Conservative Party commercial director Scott Seaman-Digby says, ‘Senior people within the party took seconds to agree the project once they saw Spring’s recommendations.’
A somewhat strange idea?!
What next? How about a Harold Wilson Tobacco Pouch with ‘A week is a long time in politics’ emblazoned on it?
Or how about A John Major ‘Disunity costs votes’ cricket jumper?
Whilst Gove’s policies are going to have a negative effect on the future of design education. Oo the irony!
Probably not a good idea to wear any of this offensive material up here in the north!
A prize goes to the first person to go out wearing one of these t-shirts without getting battered.
Luckily they won’t sell in any decent quantity because the design is lame, and boring type-only shirts have a small fan-base…. as does Maggie!
