Berg shuts its doors
Berg, the design consultancy behind the Little Printer, is closing its doors following an attempt to build a business based on connected devices.
Last year the consultancy received an £800 000 venture capital investment which it used to refocus the business on its ‘Berg Cloud’ platform.
Berg Cloud was developed to support the Little Printer project and aimed, Berg says, to facilitate ‘easy experimentation and product development, and for outsourced infrastructure when in production’.
The Berg Cloud system was made available priced at £80, and Berg chief executive Matt Webb said at the time that the move would see Berg transition from ‘design consultancy to fully-fledged technology company’.
However, the company has now announced that it is ‘wrapping up its activities’ and ‘going into hibernation’.
Berg is closing its design consultancy business, but says a skeleton staff will stay on until March 2015 to maintain the Little Printer services.
The company says it is also considering selling the Little Printer business, adding, ‘We’d be open to selling Little Printer to a company who could commit to supporting and developing it.’
