Prize illustration at Somerset House

Serpents, beards and some rather futuristic frocks are coming to Somerset House in London next month, with the arrival of the annual Association of Illustrators Illustration Awards exhibition.

The show will display work by this year’s shortlisted AOI Illustration Awards artists, which hail from around the world, aiming to “promote illustration as an essential contributor to global visual culture”, according to the organisation.

As such, we’ll see work from countries including the US, South Korea, France and the UK.

Among the 12 category winners are children’s book illustrator Chris Haughton, Brazilian artist Laurindo Feliciano, Aaron Meshon from Brooklyn, Berlin-based moving image artist Thoka Maer and Falmouth University graduates David Doran, William Grill and Katy Ponder.

There’s a huge range of styles and approaches on show – one that particularly caught our eye was the Tarot-card feel of Andrew Davidson’s work:

The AOI Illustration Awards 2014 will be exhibited at Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 1LA from 2 October – 2 November
