Lomography to open east London store

Analogue photography brand Lomography is to open a new shop in east London, with interiors designed by company director Sally Bibawy.

The new shop, which opens on Commercial Street on 29 November, is the second Lomography store in the UK. The first is located near London’s Carnaby Street and opened last year.

The shop’s interiors will feature some common elements of the brand’s worldwide stores, including display cases inspired by the wooden containers that the original Russian Lomo cameras were transported in from St Petersburg. For the east London store, the crates have been made hollow so they can be used as a window display.

Alongside an east London-inspired ‘Lomowall’ – a collage of photographs by staff and customers – the store will have a rawer feel than the Carnaby street branch to fit in with its location, says Lomography general manager in the UK Adam Scott.

The store will have neon lights and a textured cement floor with a polished finish, with the feel of an art gallery, says Scott.

Another new feature for the east London store will be a fully-functioning laboratory in the basement, which will have exposed ventilation pipes and allow customers to see the lab machinery.
