London Design Festival partners Beijing event

London Design Festival is to partner the inaugural Beijing Design Week in a deal that will see London become the official guest city when the Chinese event takes place next year.

As a guest city London will export content from LDF to showcase in Beijing. Aric Chen, creative director of BDW, is already calling the partnership a ‘long and fruitful relationship’.

LDF representatives say that under the partnership the two cities will explore collaboration, content-sharing and the exchange of talent and ideas.

On the strength of a pilot event in 2009, BDW will launch in 2011 as China’s main annual design event, offering exhibitions, events and conferences with domestic and international partners.

Installations will be commissioned throughout Beijing, and one is already earmarked for Tiananmen Square during China’s 1 October National Day celebrations.
