A round-up of this week’s news in brief.

 

Awing
 

Design By House has created the branding and promotional materials for A-Wing – a new event taking place in a former prison in Lancaster Castle. The space is now being used as a club space, and the branding for the event draws on the site’s former panopticon design, using an eye graphic. ‘The poster concept; “contraband” came from our conversations about how the events seemed to be smuggling the  excitement and energy of music into a repressive space’, says Conor Dardis, of Design By House.

UK-based packaging graphic services and technology solutions provider Prestige Group is merging with the Creative Business Unit of YFYJupiter, a US-based brand packaging production, design, photography and printing consultancy. The new entity will be known as Jupiter Prestige Group (JPG).

Julian Opie book
 

Northbank has designed the book Julian Opie: Collected Works, which is launching to coincide with a new exhibition of the contemporary artist’s work in Bath’s Holburne Museum. The consultancy says, ‘The book reflects the duality of the show with two distinct sections, each with their own front cover, showing both a retrospective of the artists work alongside his personal collection of art with a focus on portraiture and sculpture.’

London Design Festival exhibition behemoth Tent is launching an online retail platform, Shop Tent The site, which has been designed in-house at Tent based on the branding by Marc Atkinson of Marc & Anna and built by LaZook, will sell pieces by past and present Tent exhibitors.

Chelsea in Bloom
 

Underscore has designed the promotional materials for Chelsea in Bloom, a week-long festival organised in association with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. the 2014 theme, Creation in Colour, is reflected in Underscore’s Creation in Colour Wheel design, which shows different plants and flowers around a colour spectrum.

Warren Creative has created a new website for Benchmark, the furniture company founded by Sean Sutcliffe and Sir Terence Conran in 1984.  The project also saw the consultancy create new brand communication assets including stationery, email signatures and email newsletters for Benchmark.

SAS Jellyfish
 

Gareth Hopkins and Stuart Jackson have designed the Surfers Against Sewage  ‘Sea Monsters’ campaign, which aims to change consumers’ habits of using single-use carrier bags with the #breakthebaghabit slogan. The campaign uses images shot by photographer Martin Brent to ‘dramatise’ British coastlines and marine life.

Consultancy Harrison has designed the interiors for new bar and restaurant Core, based in the City of London. Core is owned by Novis leisure, and Harrison designer Elsa Nugent says the interiors scheme is ‘inspired by pop-up shops and cafes and their colourful, slightly urban, stripped-back feel.’

Radley Yeldar has created an animation and infographic for Fairtrade International’s Fairtrade Sourcing Programmes. The initiatives encourage manufacturers to buy Fairtrade goods, and aim to enable small farmers to scale up their sales of Fairtrade products such as cocoa, sugar and cotton. Sonia Macedo has been appointed head of architecture and interiors at Sedley Place. Macedo will be based at the consultancy’s London headquarters and has recently returned from Dubai where she worked for Woods Bagot Architects and Kaan Finch.

Claridge's restaurant
 

Guy Oliver of consultancy Oliver Laws has designed the interiors for Claridge’s new hotel restaurant, Fera. The look aims to capture ‘the timeless Art Deco glamour’ of Claridge’s, according to the hotel. A central kitchen features double doors surrounded by a large-scale painting, with stools for diners to watch the chefs.

Peppers
 

Sun Branding Creative has designed the packaging for Pepper’s Dog Treats, a range of gluten and wheat free dog treats from pet shop chain Pets At Home. The designs use illustrations by Sun Branding Creative senior designer Simon Inman, showing a ‘playful dog character’ in scenes reflecting each flavour. These flavours include Heavenly Chicken Stars with Spring Greens and Surfers Seafood Delights.

Bournemouth-based consultancy Fireworx has created a new website for The Retail Trust, the charity looking after those who work or have worked in retail. The consultancy created the promotional materials for the trust four years ago, and was a appointed to the site redesign on the strength of that work.

Armstead
 

Springetts has designed the identity and packaging for AkzoNobel paint brand Glidden, which is re launching as Armstead. The name is shown with a large ‘A’, with an arm graphic acting as the letter’s cross bar. ‘The arm suggests strength, and trust, qualities of a good tradesman’, says Springetts.

Animation directors Pierre + Bertrand, of production company Not to Scale, were appointed by Ogilvy Amsterdam to create the SeaStars initiative for charity WWF. The film aims to show how human behavior affects sea life. You can watch the film here 

Brand Union has appointed John Shaw to the newly created role of worldwide head of strategy and planning. Shaw will report to Simon Bolton, Brand Union worldwide chief executive. He will also be responsible for leading the London strategy and planning department, reporting in to Catherine Gale, UK and Ireland chief executive.

ODFC site
 

Newcastle-based consultancy Wonder Stuff Studio has refreshed the branding for ODFC Fitness – ‘the North-East of England’s largest provider of multi-disciplinary fitness’, according to consultancy head of projects Kevin Robson. Wonder Stuff Studio also created a new website for the brand.

Consultancy OTM has created new branding for Film London, an organisation that aims to encourage entertainment producers to work in the capital. The new logo is a graphic representation of screens and pixels, aiming to show hos ‘Film London is about connecting people’, according to OTM.

Bathrooms
 

Surrey-based consultancy Reef Design has rebranded UK Bathroom, an umbrella brand for a number of bathroom design sub-brands including Britton, Clearwater and Burlington. The designs are used across all touch-points including online, brochures, point-of-sale materials and event branding.

Salford-based consultancy Raw’s work with the Vegetarian Society has seen it create a new series of animations and a microsite, Every Meal Counts, which looks to show people the benefits of reducing their meat intake on their health, the environment and animal welfare.

SFA logo
 

Consultancy Reform Creative has designed new branding for educational support charity The Success for All Foundation UK (SFA). The new look retains the previous star graphic from the branding used in the US, where the charity was founded, and uses ‘professional colours, [and] clear and legible typography’, according to Reform Creative.
