A round-up of this week’s news in brief.

 

Valspar
 

Bluemarlin’s Sydney office has created new branding for paint company Valspar. The designs are centred around the ‘Owning Colour’ proposition, and use a paint droplet graphic device.

Illustrator and artist David Shrigley has been appointed to create designs for London restaurant Sketch. The gallery space will feature a range of new site-specific works by Shrigley, including a large-scale animated mural. Shrigley will also design new ceramic tableware for the restaurant.

PhotoCovers
 

RPA: Group has designed a pop up store for PhotoCovers & More, a service offering instant printing onto covers of smartphones, android devices, tablets, puzzles and canvasses. The first branch is open in London’s Westfield Stratford shopping centre, with 15 more due to launch before Christmas.

Ali Gee has been appointed chief executive of the new Fishburn consultancy, which launches in January following the integration of London and New York-based Fishburn Hedges, consumer PR agency Seventy Seven and branding and design consultancy Further. The move sees Simon Matthews, currently Fishburn Hedges group chief executive; take the role of chairman of the new agency.

Fitzpatricks Cocktails
 

Howe Design has created the bottle designs for Mr Fitzpatrick’s range of alcohol free cocktails. The ‘bright and fun’ designs have a ‘definite retro slant’, according to the consultancy.

Liverpool-based consultancy Bolland & Lowe has created a new look for the city’s Everyman and Playhouse Theatres. The designs will be used across all touchpoints including seasonal show guides, brand idents and full print collateral.

Kininvie
 

LFH has created the packaging for Kininvie whisky, the first single malt launched by parent company William Grant & Son. The design emphasises ‘VI’ in the Kininvie logo, reflecting the number of stills originally at the distillery.

Kevin Johnson has joined 1HQ as executive creative director. He joins from Seymour Powell, where he was creative strategy director.

Stonyfield yogurts
 

Pearlfisher’s New York office has created the branding and packaging for organic yogurt brand Stonyfield. The designs feature ‘sunlit food photography’, an ‘ownable illustration style’, and two bespoke typefaces, according to Pearlfisher.

Consultancy Do Good Branding has designed a new look for business agency Upfront. It created a new strapline, ‘Straight Talking Business Development’, a new visual identity and a new website, http://upfrontbd.com

Flooding campaign
 

Manchester-based consultancy Squad has created the identity for a national Environment Agency campaign to raise awareness of flood risk. The ‘Floods Destroy – Be Prepared’ identity, which has been used in an Environment Agency campaign targeted at residents, community groups and businesses based in flood prone areas.

Berkshire-based consultancy Creative Jar has been appointed to design and develop a new website for cycling opponents brand PRO.

Phil Goss and Jamie Jenkinson have created The Hotel Room installation for London’s Evelyn Yard Contemporary Gallery. Visitors are encouraged to use photography and video in the space, which features ‘cinematic views and voyeuristic décor’, according to the artists.

StartJG Dubai has crafted a new identity and branch interiors for the United Arab Emirates-based bank ADCB. The ‘warmer, friendlier ‘new look aims tocommunicate the brand’s heritage whilst broadening its contemporary appeal’, according to the consultancy.

York-based digital agency Plump Digital has developed an online interactive game for a Barnados to help raise awareness of the issue of poverty. The game can be accessed here.

Project Zoltar book
 

Kieron Livingstone has designed the Zoltar the Magnificent  book for Creative collective Project Zoltar, founded by Livingstone and Dan Macmillan ten years ago.

Consultancy Brand42 has redesigned the Mail Plus tablet app for the Daily Mail.

1963 Glenmorangie
 

Butterfly Cannon has created the packaging for Glenmorangie1963, a whisky distilled 50 years ago and then bottled in 1987 at 23 Years old. The new bottle designs use the original shape from 1963, with the addition of an engraved silver label and cap.

Nine independent Bristol based magazine including OFF LIFE, BoneShaker, Cereal, Loaf, Lion Heart and Another Escape have co-founded BIP; Bristol Independent Publishers. The group aims to help better showcase the city’s publishing scene.

Ghillie and Glen
 

Chilli UK has designed new branding and packaging for smoked salmon brand Ghillie & Glen. The new identity retains the image of the Ghillie character and his dog.

The medals for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are to be designed by maker and jeweller Jonathan Mathew Boyd, a graduate of Glasgow School and Art.

Ice Cream Union
 

Interstate has designed the packaging for the Ice Cream Union’s new 500ml tubs. The new looks has seen updates to the typography and colour palette,; with a new scoop icon to represent ice cream and a tessellated diamond for sorbet.

Northampton-based consultancy Gavin Willis Creative Marketing (GWCM), has created a new identity for The British Business Bank, a state-backed economic development bank. The icon was developed from a small, partially abstracted section of the Union Flag.

Just An Illusion
 

Illustration duo Kai and Sunny have released a new print, Just an Illusion. It will be showing at London’s Stolenspace Gallery Winter Group Show.

Designer Christian Bougie has created Elfxpedition, an augmented reality app for children that allows them to  ‘virtually capture Christmas elves in their own home or anywhere they go!’, according to Bougie.
