News in brief round-up

A round up of this week’s news in brief.

DCM icons
 

Proud Creative has designed a suite of icons for UK cinema advertising company Digital Cinema Media (DCM). The icons and characters aim to support communication around audience insight, both internally and to external audiences. DCM was rebranded earlier this year by Daniel Eatock. 

Lydia Thornley Design has created the branding for yoga studio The Secret Space.

Blow salon
 

Copenhagen-based practice Studio David Thulstrup has designed the interiors for Blow, a hair salon in Copenhagen, Denmark. The space aims to create a ‘1950s feeling’, with features including yellow marble, natural and yellow stained wood, costume made lacquered mirrors and 1956 Egon Eiermann wooden chairs.

Peter Saville is the winner of this year’s London Design Medal, which is awarded each year by the London Design Festival to ‘an individual who has made an immense contribution to design and London’.

Milk
 

SomeOne has created new branding for London-based visual effects studio Milk. The designs feature a series of tubes, referencing dairy milk pumps and also metaphorically refer to ‘the intelligent systems in place at the organisation to ensure projects flow smoothly through the system’, according to SomeOne.

Fivefootsix has created the look for this year’s BBC Children in Need appeal. The designs are used across merchanidese, fundraising packs and on-screen.

Glasgow-based consultancy Graven Images has created new interiors for the British Airways Executive Lounge at Glasgow Airport. Features include pods with an LED-lit mesh panel wall by Giles Miller Studio, a mix of ceramic and oak flooring and displays of artwork by graduates of the Glasgow School of Art.

Infinity lingerie
 

Dalziel and Pow has rebranded Russian lingerie company Infinity. The designs aim to create ‘a softer and more mature feel’, says the consultancy.

Heals has made a number of new appointments to its core home departments.  Michelle Alger has been appointed Head of Home with responsibility for all non-furniture products; Pia Benham has been appointed Head of Fabric and Design; and Carmel Allen becomes Brand Champion.

Rebecca Louise Law has designed a ‘sensory gin installation’ Greenhouse for gin brand Sipsmith. The piece uses Juniper and copper wire, and visitors can taste the gin and learn about the plants used in its creation. It will be at The Chelsea Gardener until  28 September.

Bellville Sassoon
 

Jade Design has created the graphics for The Glamour of Belville Sassoon, an exhibition opening later this month at London’s Fashion and Textile Museum celebrating the history of the British fashion salon.

Seymourpowell is collaborating with AkzoNobel Decorative Paints to explore and the process of recycling used paint in a project jointly funded by the Technology Strategy Board. You can find out more with this video

Gigs and Tours site.
 

Manchester-based consultancy Creative Spark has designed a new website for music guide Gigs and Tours. The new site features faster search, a calendar of gig dates, an app download and social media integration.

The Brand Union has made a number of new appointments. Catherine Gale joins as chief executive for UK & Ireland from Saatchi & Saatchi Switzerland; Toby Southgate has been appointed chief executive of The Brand Union Americas; Tim Hill has been promoted to worldwide development director and   Rob Scalea moves to position of non-executive chairman.

Goldfinger Factory
 

This week sees the launch of Goldfinger Factory in the Erno Goldfinger-designed Trellick Tower in west London, a new social enterprise space featuring a sustainable workshop, a training school and a retail unit. A collection of furniture will be created with people from the local community, made using reclaimed furniture donated to the space.

Bloom has been appointed strategic design partner to Fox’s Biscuits, owned by the 2 Sisters Food Group.

Liberty paint
 

Brand Voice is to launch a new paint in collaboration with Liberty London as part of its Colour & Paint online paint business. The paint colours are co-ordinated with Liberty’s Art Fabrics range.
