Olympic Park renamed Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Plans for the future of the London 2012 Olympic Park have been unveiled by Mayor Boris Johnson and Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt, which include renaming the area Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

A spokeswoman for the Olympic Park Legacy company says the name was chosen by London 2012 organising bodies and that any branding opportunities will not arise until after the games, when the park is renamed from The Olympic Park.

The new name has been chosen to emphasise ‘quality, history and innovation’ and is intended to appeal to ‘international visitors and UK nationals’, the organisers say.

Johnson has also announced a 25-year regeneration project which he is calling ‘London’s single most important regeneration project’.

Residential plans, community facilities including schools, health centres and community centres will be integrated with existing east London infrastructure.

Public realm areas set to be reconfigured include footpaths, cycleways, bridges and roads. The architectural landscape has already been planned by a team including Aecom Architects and Allies and Morrison.
