Philip Watts Design is creating a five-storey sculpture for Birmingham’s Custard Factory. The artwork will occupy a new extension to the arts and media building, and will have three glass walkways puncturing it. Watts was commissioned two years ago to create the work, which he says represents a ‘mass of energy’ that makes the journey across the bridges feel ‘deliberately unsettling’. The structure will be unveiled in February.
Design outfit Studio Texture has led the redesign, keeping the previous Pentagram-designed logo but introducing new colours, typography and tone of voice.
The newly-established partnership hopes to create more aesthetically-pleasing solutions to COVID wayfinding in working, retail and even domestic spaces.
