Pop-up Dock Kitchen to relaunch as permanent restaurant
The Dock Kitchen in west London, which launched last autumn as a pop-up restaurant, is to reopen as a permanent venture with a new design by Tom Dixon’s consultancy Design Research Studio.
When it launched, the restaurant shared a space with the Tom Dixon showroom. The showroom is now moving downstairs, with the restaurant expanding to occupy the entire space.
The restaurant will double in size to accommodate 80 covers and the new design will feature distinct environments including a dining hall, a salon, a chef’s table, a private dining room and a bar lounge.
Design Research Studios says the redesigned space will feature walls, floors and tables clad in natural lava stone from Mount Etna, while Danish consultancy Sort of Coal has created a wall installation using different kinds of charcoal from the Kishu mountain region of Japan. The space will also use furniture and lighting from the new Tom Dixon collection.
Tom Dixon has also created the kitchen design, in collaboration with Ekoij Kitchens, which will feature a central column made from raw steel with cantilever planes crafted from aggregate stone.
Building work began on the restaurant about three weeks ago and it is set to reopen on 14 September.
