Science Museum seeks designers for two new galleries

The Science Museum in London is seeking a lead designer for two new permanent galleries as part of its Museum of the Future masterplan.

The two new galleries are known as the Treasury Galleries. One will explore the history of science and one will explore the history of communication technology.

Tim Molloy, head of creative direction at the museum, says the galleries will be ‘object-rich’, adding, ‘We want them to be very adventurous and very powerful.’

Molloy says ‘We’re looking for new eyes and new ideas – they could be from architects, theatre designers, cinematographers or others.’

A tender notice has been issued by the museum, which specifies a search for ‘a lead design consultant to provide comprehensive integrated creative design services’.

The scheduled date for the start of the tender process is 8 November, and Molloy says the aim is for the new galleries to be completed by October 2014.
