Studio DB’s Fenwick refurbishment set to complete

Studio DB’s large-scale refurbishment of Fenwick’s Bond Street branch in central London is set to complete at the end of April.

The interior design consultancy has been working across the store as part of a revamp that Studio DB director Philip Dolman says will extend the retail area by 20 per cent. Dolman says the consultancy was appointed to the work at the end of 2007 after presenting strategic proposals in a competitive pitch.

Dolman and fellow Studio DB director Lesley Batchelor had previously worked with Fenwick when the pair were at Din Associates. A spokeswoman for Fenwick says the work is part of a long-planned refurbishment of the store. It covers the ground, first, second and third floors, and uses ’a clean, contemporary and rich palette’, according to Dolman.

The work has taken in the jewellery (pictured), lingerie and fragrance departments, accessories and leather rooms, and the beauty hall on the ground floor. The accessories room features a Jaime Hayón chandelier, while a gold-leaf dome with a Murano glass chandelier is used in the lingerie department.

The first floor is described by Studio DB as ’the heartland of the store’ and hosts fashion and footwear brands. The second floor, which hosts the women’s designer fashion range, is based on the concept of ’understated contemporary luxury’, says the consultancy. The Corner Room features original skirtings and curved French windows, and plays host to furniture by Tom Dixon and Cappellini.

The Italian Rooms, which will house brands including Max Mara and Armani, feature another Murano chandelier, as well as furniture by Knoll, Minotto, YDF, Artifor and Max Alto. The third floor, which will house boutique brands such as Paul and Joe, Sandro and Maje, is described by the consultancy as ’Barbie industrial – contemporary eclectic fun, informal, relaxed anarchy’. It will feature exposed structures and banks of long tables along with furniture from Patricia Urquiola, Established & Sons and Porro.
