The art of ‘swapsies’

As grown men regress into excited little school boys screaming ‘got’ and ‘need’ up and down the office it can only mean one thing – the start of World Cup fever. Filling their sticker books with the finest football players can be a painstaking task if you have too many duplicates. So this is where the old swapsie mantra ‘Got, got, got need’ comes into play.

Elliot Quince – a football-mad illustrator – has taken this to another level, however, creating 32 portraits of super-sized football stickers to raise money for his local hospital. The handpainted canvases show one player from each of the 32 nations competing in the forthcoming World Cup in South Africa.

You can see  Quince’s caricatures  of  Wayne Rooney for England and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo from the 10 June, for the duration of the tournament at London’s Offside Gallery. The portraits will all be sold,  with proceeds going to the Neonatal Unit at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, which looked after Quince’s daughter last year.

Got, got, got need by Elliot Quince runs from 10 June to 11 July at Offside Bar and Gallery, City Road, Islington, London N1
