The Yard Creative designs City pop-up space

The Yard Creative has designed a pop-up retail space for Land Securities’ new City of London shopping development One New Change, which opens at the end of October.

The space will allow brands to occupy a retail space in the development on a temporary basis with lower up-front costs and in quick succession.

Appointed by Land Securities in July, the consultancy was briefed to create a flexible, reusable shell that would suit a variety of different retailers. The space needed to provide tenants with a ’blank canvas’ which could be adapted to suit their layout and branding, says The Yard Creative designer Tom Edington.

The space is lit with an adaptive LED lighting system, but has fittings to allow retailers to plug in their own pendant lamps.

Retailers’ graphics can be slotted into an 80cm band around the top of the store and to a large lightbox and the front of the store.

A Barrisol-frame ceiling lets retailers choose between an urban-feel exposed ceiling or a more sophisticated solid surface, says Edington.

Edington adds, ’With different retailers coming in and out, you want to make things to last, but still make it appealing. The challenge was providing retailers with the vision of how the space could look.’
