To fail utterly would be the best way to win my award

In response to your Voxpop on a putative Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme for the industry (DW 26 May), one common quality of designers is their control freakery and desire for perfection within the confines of what they already know.

My DofE award would aim to encourage experimentation and the facing of the fear of complete and utter failure. Designers would be asked to attempt adventurous creative projects that lie outside of their sphere of experience.

A combination of embarrassment potential, distance travelled outside of comfort zone and magnitude of failure would add up to a final grade. The highest achievers would be the biggest failures.
